Design Engineer

McWilliams Forge Company, in Rockaway, NJ, is a well established leader in the manufacture of precision forged products for the aerospace industry. The company is a division of Precision Castparts Corp. (PCP) a public company and operates as a stand alone entity. We are seeking a motivated engineer to join our forge design team. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills along with creativity to systemize the design process. Responsibilities:

• Efficiently and economically, coordinates all stages of new die development, insuring product manufacturability and product quality
• Changes existing die designs and processes to improve the quality of products and effectiveness of processes.
• Provides die engineering technical expertise to manufacturing, which includes tooling, material, maintenance of dies and production techniques.
• Interfaces with Metallurgists, Process Engineers and Manufacturing personnel to discuss die engineering problems in relation to product design.
• Creates manufacturing documentation such as forging procedures and forging prints
• Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly.
• Innovatively applies knowledge of die engineering principles, practices and procedures to create robust dies that positively contribute to overall plant improvement in safety, quality, productivity, cost and on-time delivery.
• Complies with all environmental safe practices and regulations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Required Skills:

•  
• Thorough knowledge of forging dies and die theory would be a plus
• Knowledge of designing/manufacturing specialty tools, production fixtures and forging dies, preferably in the aerospace industry
• Training and knowledge in technical software applications
• Clear knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, standards and specifications, geometric tolerancing and dimensioning
• Strong quality, safety and teamwork orientation
• Results oriented
• Continuous improvement focus
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to lead groups in problem-solving activities
• Prior experience working with skilled trades people highly preferred.

• Bachelor degree in engineering (mechanical);
• 5+ years experience designing/manufacturing forging dies or equivalent experience.
• Interfaces with customers to optimize designs as required.
